Approche de la circulation residuelle en Baie de Seine ArchiMer
Lehir, P; Salomon, J; Leprovost, C; Chabertd'Hieres, G; Mauvais, J.
By taking into account salinity measurements and consequently mean residence time, current measurements, tidal computation with a 2-D model and wind induced currents provided by a 3-D model, a global diagram of residual flow in Seine Bay is given. Main patterns are exhibited: density currents in the eastern part of the bay, off the Seine Estuary, wind induced circulation, especially along the coast and over the Channels, and tidal residual patterns induced by topography.

Circulation on the shelf and the upper slope of the Bay of Biscay ArchiMer
Le Boyer, Arnaud; Charria, Guillaume; Le Cann, Bernard; Lazure, Pascal; Marie, Louis.
Here, we used measurements taken with an array of 10 acoustic Doppler current profilers deployed from July 2009 to August 2011 to describe the tidally filtered circulation over the shelf and upper slope on the French side off the French coasts of the Bay of Biscay. The measurements provided an overview of the shelf and slope circulation throughout the entire water column over a large range of spatial and time scales. The average circulation over the shelf and upper slope of the Bay of Biscay was poleward following the topography with a speed of the order of 3 cm s(-1). This average circulation had marked seasonal variability. In summer, the currents were equatorward on the outer shelf near surface. Deeper in the water column, the flow remained poleward. In...

Modeles mathematiques de courants residuels sur le plateau continental nord europeen ArchiMer
Djenidi, S; Nihoul, J; Ronday, F; Garnier, Antonin.
To study residual currents the authors use mathematical models. The introduction deals with parameters having an influence on this process in the North sea and adjacent seas (shallow environments): tidal residual circulation, limit conditions and winds. Several maps give a representation of results.

Numerical study of the annual and semi-annual fluctuations in the deep equatorial Atlantic Ocean ArchiMer
Thierry, Virginie; Treguier, Anne-marie; Mercier, Herle.
Using idealized and realistic high-resolution primitive equation models, we explore the annual and semi-annual period fluctuations in the deep equatorial Atlantic Ocean. The deep seasonal variability derives its energy from the equatorial zonal wind stress component and the wind energy reaches the deep layers by means of vertically propagating Kelvin and Rossby waves. The first meridional mode (l = 1) annual Rossby wave reaches the western boundary while the other Rossby waves directly propagate toward the bottom. A deep Kelvin wave is generated by the reflection of the incoming l = 1 annual Rossby wave at the western boundary. Due to the complexity of the surface layers in the non-linear simulations, one cannot separate the waves generated at the...
